About Divadlo jazykůDivadlo Jazyků (Theatre of Languages) is a nationwide meeting dedicated to teaching foreign languages using theatre and drama as its medium. This event is an eight day theatre festival connected with a two day conference. Theatre Festival Divadlo JazykůThe theatre festival Divadlo Jazyků will be from June 12th to 19th, 2009 in Na Prádle theatre, which is situated in the very historical centre of Prague at Kampa (Besední 3, Praha 1). Twenty-three schools and theatres from all over the Czech Republic have so far applied to perform. English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Russian and Czech as a foreign language will be heard on stage. There are still vacancies for groups interested in applying to perform at the festival. The festival will be open to the public daily during the afternoon. On Thursday the 18th of June there will be an additional performance at noon (in French). Participating schools and theatres will have the opportunity to use the theatre during the morning hours for a rehearsal on stage, and the rest of the free time they can use for summer walks through Prague. A fee of 30 CZK per performer is required for schools and theatres applying to perform. Conference Divadlo JazykůThe conference will take place at the Faculty of Education of Charles University, Celetná 13, Prague 1, on June 13th and 14th, 2009, from 9:00 to 14:00. It’s for foreign language teachers who either use, or are interested in using, methods of drama education and theatre in their teaching. Presentations will be given by experts who are using and developing this method of teaching on a practical and theoretical level, regarding their projects and its results. They will share their experience in theoretical lectures and practical interactive workshops. During the afternoon hours, all conference participants may watch the festival in Na Prádle theatre.
The conference is accredited by the Ministry of Education under no. 25 205/2008-25-506. The conference will start with an opening lecture given by Dr. Manfred Schewe, the head of the Department of German and a board member for the department of Drama and Theatre Studies at the University College Cork, Ireland. Dr. Schewe is a leading scholar in the field of drama and language education. He has published dozens of scientific articles and is the editor for the bilingual magazine Scenario. The conference attendee fee is 400 CZK, which includes free entry for the whole festival at Na Prádle theatre. |
